F2 post-congress field trip to eastern Chalkidiki and Mygdonia graben (29 June).
This route is longer and focuses on the overview of the eastern Halkidiki and Mygdonia basin fault systems. Faults in these areas have produced several strong earthquakes, the most prominent ones being the 1932 M 7 Ierissos and the 1978 M 6.5 Stivos earthquakes. Faults in this area are associated, directly or indirectly, to the North Aegean Trough, a major dextral strike-slip fault zone. |
